MASTERING COMPELLING IMAGES FOR CLIENTS AND COMPETITION, with CARL CAYLOR
When we view a flat piece of paper, drawing, photograph or painting; we see things differently than in actual life. This program is going to show how we can use cognitive concepts to create images that people will find powerful and balanced. Yes, I will discuss the importance of image competition and how to use the experience as an educational tool. We will talk about light, composition, color harmony and much more. You will see many examples and hear analogies that help us to remember the concepts we discuss together. I will share darkroom and post processing skills as well as many frequently seen mistakes and how to avoid or fix them. After this program, you will hear a little voice in your head each time you look through your camera. You will listen to this voice and make powerful decisions when creating for you or your guests.
A few nuggets to expect:
Psychology of the portrait process
Choosing the right light… quality and quantity
Composition and balance
The Math and the Art
Custom print preparation concepts
Register early. Space is limited. Attendees must register and pay in advance. No refunds or onsite registration.

CREATING BETWEEN LIGHT AND SHADOW - A "HANDS-ON" PORTRAIT WORKSHOP
10:00 am - 1:00 pm
1:00 - 2:30 pm Lunch
2:30 - 6:00 pm
CREATING BETWEEN LIGHT AND SHADOW
- A “hands-on” portrait workshop.
In today’s world, we should be able to create an image for anyone, anywhere. This “hands-on” program will confirm the vision of light you already have and then bring that vision to much greater levels so that you can work in any situation. You will learn to see light in its natural form as well as how to merge artificial light within a scene. You will learn more about composition, creation of depth and the psychology of portraiture that will allow you to go from everyday simple portrait work to ridiculous concepts that will only be limited by your own creativity.
This is a VERY HANDS-ON class. The objective is not just to introduce you to new concepts, but to train you thoroughly. Upon completion of this workshop you will be ready to apply your newly acquired skills for your next client session. We will be photographing models in the downtown Birmingham area, more details will be provided to registered participants.
Since this is a full service class beginning with visualizing and ending with a salable print, I will also share workflow and digital darkroom work to take the “good image” created in your camera, to a great image ready to print. I look forward to coaching you to new levels of your art.
