Evening Presentation: Making a Merit Image with Rich and Christie Newell

Rich and Christie are a dynamic and highly skilled team, both very passionate about image competition. They love sharing how much image competition can impact your everyday work, and how to have your everyday work be successful at competition. They will be covering all aspects of image competition, including:

  • The 12 elements - we all know this is the number one key to a merit 
  • Mistakes commonly made during the process of selecting and entering images
  • Mail rules.  Rich will discuss and answer any questions along the way 
This presentation will give you the necessary tools to create a merit image and allow you to capture emotion and tell irresistible stories for your clients and judges alike.

ABOUT RICH NEWELL M.Photog., CR, CPP

Rich has taught at the Ohio Institute of Photography and was a portrait and wedding photographer for 25 years. Rich has served on many PPA committees, the Professional Photographers of Ohio board, and the PPA board of directors. He was an approved PPA Juror and Jury Chairman until he took the job at Professional Photographers of America as the Events and International Photographic Competition Manager. Rich is also the team captain for the World Photographic Cup.

ABOUT CHRISTIE NEWELL M.Photog., CR, CPP

Since 2006, Christie has won numerous awards for her photography on a local, state, district and international level. These awards include the prestigious Fuji Masterpiece Award, 3 Kodak Gallery Awards, 2 CPP awards, 2 Lexjet awards and many others. She has been part of team USA competing in the World Photographic Cup!! Her work has been featured and published in the PPA International Loan Collection, PPA magazine and Lensational magazine. She has also been named in the top ten photographers for Illinois several years.
