ABOUT ED WESTWOOD
Edward Westwood, M. Photog.
Photography has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My father was an avid shutterbug, taking photos of holidays, vacations, just about everything our family did. Every couple of months, we would all get together, pull out the slide projector, and spend the evening looking at photos old and new. I learned early on the importance of preserving memories with photography. When I was 12 I had my first darkroom under the basement stairs. At 14, I received my first SLR camera for Christmas. My only thought for a career was to be a photographer, and in 2021 I will be celebrating 40 years as a professional photographer. In that time I have been lucky to work with some of the top studios in the Metro Detroit area.
In 1994 I was hired as a contract photographer for General Motors. Interesting work, but the best part was that we were on the cutting edge of digital photography. Photoshop 2.5 (before layers!) and a Kodak DCS420 camera were my tools back then. My computer geekdom and my passion for photography were a perfect fit! I also discovered that I love to share what I know with my fellow photographers and started teaching Photoshop in 1999. In 2012 I starting working with my wife, Julie Proudfoot, at our studio, Wally Spice Photography/WSP Seniors. Julie and I met at a PPM convention 10 years ago, and our mutual love of photography soon turned into relationship that changed our lives forever when we got married in 2013. I earned my Master of Photography in 2010. I am currently a Professional Photographers of America Councilor and serve on the Detroit Professional Photographers Association Board of Directors, and a Past President of Professional Photographers of Michigan.

The Real Scoop on Real Estate Photography with Karen Thaemert, Cr. Photog, CPP
Real Estate work is a form of volume photography. On the surface, it may seem simple because you are not dealing with people and posing. Quickly, you learn that it is not as easy as it seems on the surface. This class goes over all of the basics from gear and rules to shooting and lighting techniques. You will learn tips and tricks for working quickly and getting the job delivered efficiently. Practical topics on workflows are covered from booking the job, to the shoot, all the way through post-processing and delivery. Students walk away from the class with the beginning steps and knowledge for successfully photographing a home for real estate.
Karen will also discuss marketing and cross-marketing ideas.
This full-day class also includes an excursion to a real house and a demonstration of how to use different shooting/lighting techniques.
ABOUT KAREN THAEMERT
Karen runs two distinct photography businesses: the portrait studio, and the corporate business. The portrait studio has a focus on high school seniors and families. The corporate side of the business is filled with real estate jobs and business portraits. Interestingly, all seem to mix together to bring in clients. The hundreds of real estate agents in her book of business continually fuel the headshots and personal branding jobs as well as refer their clients for family portraits.
