On Location: Downtown Detroit
Street Photography Discussion and Walk: With Evan Deutsch
Join us for a relaxed and engaging morning of street photography, conversation, and coffee!
What to Expect
We'll begin with a photo walk through the city, spending a few hours exploring streets, architecture, light, shadows, and the people who bring urban environments to life. Along the way, I'll share some of the techniques and approaches that have worked for me when photographing city scenes and candid moments.
Partway through our walk, we'll stop at Spkrbox, one of my favorite coffee shops. In addition to serving great coffee, it offers excellent photographic opportunities and plenty of character. The outing will last approximately three hours, with an optional lunch afterward for anyone who would like to continue the conversation.
What Should You Photograph?
That's entirely up to you.
Some photographers are drawn to people and candid moments. Others prefer architecture, patterns, reflections, light, shadows, or abstract urban details. Street photography can encompass all of these approaches.
I'll likely be shooting with a 28mm lens because I enjoy working close to my subjects and becoming part of the scene. However, there is no right or wrong way to approach street photography. Bring whatever gear you're comfortable with. Some photographers prefer longer lenses and capture compelling images from a distance.
Whether you're an experienced street photographer or simply curious to try something new, all skill levels are welcome. Come walk, shoot, learn, share ideas, and enjoy a great morning with fellow photographers.
Bring your camera, comfortable walking shoes, and your curiosity. We hope to see you there! ☕
Meet Your Guide Evan Deutsch
I picked up a camera in early 2022 and began photographing birds. While wildlife photography taught me a great deal, I eventually found myself looking for a different challenge.
My introduction to street photography came while documenting protests in Chicago. Regardless of the cause, public gatherings are filled with emotion, energy, storytelling, and decisive moments—everything that makes photography exciting. Since then, I've become captivated by the challenge of street photography and the pursuit of those rare, magical images that tell a story in a single frame.
During the summer months, I also enjoy macro photography. Spending time photographing insects and tiny details has given me an even greater appreciation for the complexity and beauty of the natural world.
